Frequently Asked Questions
What programs are offered? We offer four band programs for ages 7–17: Opening Act (Rock/Pop, ages 7–10), Sound Studio (Rock/Pop, ages 11–17), Jazz Foundations (Jazz, ages 7–10), and Groove Lab (Jazz, ages 11–17). Each group is designed for its age range so students are always playing with peers at a similar stage.
What experience does my child need? Students will be assessed individually from their audition video and/or their current Home Sweet Home teacher.
What instruments are accepted? Guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals for the rock programs. Saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, and other jazz instruments for the jazz programs. Not sure if your child's instrument fits? Contact us and we'll let you know.
When do sessions run? Sessions run from October-May. There will be three holidays for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break.
Where are classes held? Band practice is held in Berkeley Heights.
How much does it cost? Tuition is $525 per session. First month payment is due at enrollment.
How often does the band meet? Once per week for one hour. Attendance is essential — band is a team effort, and consistent participation makes the difference.
Will there be performances? Yes! Each session includes a showcase where students perform for family and friends. Performance experience is a core part of the program.
How do I enroll? Use the enrollment form on this page to sign up. Spots are limited, so we recommend enrolling early.
What if my child misses a lesson? Because band is a group activity, consistent attendance is critical. Please review our attendance policy at enrollment. Make-ups are not available for missed group sessions.
What if I miss the enrollment date? Can my child still join a band? We will add your child to the wait list and if an opening becomes available, tuition will be prorated.
What if my child has never played in a band before? Perfect! Many students are joining their first band. Our instructors guide students through every step of the experience.
Can my child join after the season begins? Yes! Students may join existing bands as openings become available or be placed into newly formed bands throughout the year.
Does my child need private lessons? No. Private lessons are optional but can help students progress more quickly.
What if we miss a rehearsal? Simply let us know as soon as possible. Because bands rehearse together, individual makeup rehearsals are generally not available.
How often do students perform? Performance opportunities are scheduled throughout the season and announced well in advance. There will be a minimum of two showcases, one in December and one in May.
